POCKET PARK
CPJI’s planned Pocket Park is more than just a park; it will serve as a living tribute to the bravery of Columbia’s Black community, memorializing their courageous acts of resistance in 1946 while cementing Columbia’s place in the long arc of the Civil Rights Movement’s fight for justice.
A LIVING NARRATIVE
The heart of CPJI’s vision is to create a dynamic space for reflection and education through a walking history exhibit, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Maury County’s past. The park is designed to bring the community together, acting as a hub for residents, complete with plazas and event spaces.
As visitors explore the park, they’ll also encounter engaging features, including green spaces, a water feature and monuments. It will be a space where history and culture intersect.
EAST SIDE’S RICH HERITAGE
Nestled in the historic east side of Columbia, the Pocket Park will serve not only as a necessary testament to our past but as a vital cultural epicenter for the community. This area once thrived as a booming Black business district and was the site of the 1946 uprising. Visitors to the Pocket Park will become a part of a larger mission to revitalize this historic area of the city and better connect it to Columbia’s growing downtown square.
